Students in Rome "Go Green" for America Recycles Day

Tuesday marks the 14th Annual "America Recycles Day", and Staley Upper Elementary School in Rome is doing it's part in recycling.
Student, Moriah Humiston wants to do what she can to help the planet, and that's why she's doing her part on America Recycles Day.
"Today we're starting to recycle milk cartons," said Humiston.
But today isn't the only time she recycles different items.
The 6th grader is captain for the "Green Team" at her school to get other kids involved in recycling.
"We go around and collect recyclables, and I usually just help out and train people," she said.
America Recycles Day is a nationwide day dedicated to recycling initiatives and accomplishments.
Staley Upper Elementary began it's milk carton recycling initiative in part of the school's "Go Green" program.
"It's not something that we just think about doing here with these kids at this age. It's something that they have to carry forward to make part of their life," said Staley PTG President, Tanya Davis.
And the kids at this school are eager to share what sort of things they like to recycle.
"We're recycling milk cartons and juice," said student Josh Kippen.
"I recycle paper and I have mechanical pencils in my classroom, I recycle those," said another student, Taylor Fulgieri.
Tanya Davis says the students have really grasped the concept of how important recycling is.
"They're listening, and they're excited and they're engaged, and that's what makes it successful," said Davis.
"I feel really good because it makes me feel that I can help and we can recycle more to save the earth and get all the junk off the ground," said Fulgieri.
Staley Upper Elementary will be continuing to "Go Green" and recycle throughout the entire school year.

i would like to know how i am supposed to explain to my 10 yr old daughter who was interviewed by a reporter about recycling at school for this piece,and was told to make sure she and her whole family should watch,when we do her segment is not in the piece at all and does not understand why they would tell her that she would be on television and was not.thanks for raising the expectations of my daughter only to have those expectations and all the good work these kids are doing broken to pieces and leaving the parents with the task of explaining to our kids why.Hannah was very proud of what she and her classmates are doing for the environment and our city, we only hope that your need to consolidate time has not lessened the effectiveness of their passion and effort.
