Two Companies Make Big Investment in Central New York
A job creating investment is going to help develop educational opportunities and nanotechnology jobs in our area. New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver announced the move on Thursday. Valutek is an industry-leader in the manufacturing of cleanroom supplies. It's currently located in Arizona, and is moving to the SUNY-IT campus in Utica/Rome.
The President and CEO of Valutek says the company could be located anywhere in the world, but they chose central New York. "If you're a company like Valutek and you provide critical supplies to the world's leading nanotech and biomedical companies it's pretty simple really. You want to be located where the world class companies are. Today New York state is where the world class companies are."
Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi announced that Valutek will be moving its corporate headquarters and operations to SUNY-IT, creating 25 area jobs.
"Partnering local businesses with our local colleges allows students to gain real-world experience with industry leaders with the most up to date technologies," said Assemblyman Brindisi
Valutek is partnering with SUNY-IT and The Albany College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering. Silver also announced that a leading IT firm, nfrastructure, currently at SUNY-IT, has plans to expand and ultimately create 150 more jobs in the area. The state's assembly has already provided almost forty million dollars to help establish other advanced technology centers at the school.
Officials also announced earlier this year the state is investing $400 million in a plan. That plan is to attract $4 billion in private investment in the nanotechnology sector. In total, the goal is to create nearly a thousand jobs in our area.
