The remaining absentee ballots have been counted.

According to numbers from The Oneida County Board of Elections, Democrat Robert Palmieri is officially the Mayor elect of Utica.

Palmieri has held quite a lead over Republican challenger, Michael Cerminaro.

Now that the race is over, Palmieri had a total of 4,344 votes and his opponent Republican Michael Cerminaro had 4,040 votes.

Palmieri shared with Eyewitness News his plans for the first day in office as Mayor of Utica.

Throughout his campaign, Palmieri says he is grateful for the people of Utica electing him.

"If it wasn't for the supporters, I wouldn't be standing here as your Mayor elect of Utica, New York. It was the supporters who lifted me up and carried up to where I am at this point. We've already met with department heads, corporation council, business leaders, elected officials, day one has already started. We're going to be up and running," he said.

Palmieri says he is ready to take office and is looking forward to January.
