Starting this Friday the Mohawk Valley will officially
have two breweries in town. Eyewitness News reporter Jennifer Lee had a chance
to take a sneak peek at the micro- brewery on Varick Street earlier today.
Some people probably did not know that Nail Creek pub was transforming itself
into a micro-brewery. Almost four years of trying to get the brewery started, the owner of Nail Creek
says it's finally happening.
"I've been telling my customers for the last three years it will be ready in
the next three months... Then ohhh another three months... Now three years
later... It is ready," says Chris Talgo.
Chris Talgo, the owner of Nail Creek Pub says after a mountain of paperwork and
fabricating their own brewery equipment. They are ready to deliver their two
new brews this Friday.
"A Breakfast Stout that is very roasty and has a lot caramel notes and smooth..
That is more of a session beer.. And we have a Belgium Double that is malty but
has some fruity undertones," says Talgo.
Chris Kogut, the brew master has been brewing for twenty years. He says he has always wanted to open a brew
pub. But he says he wasn't crazy enough to open one up himself.
That's when he partnered up with chris and..." we've
been having a lot of fun... The American beer culture is growing at a rate you wouldn't
believe... It's great to be a part of it and contribute to what we can to it,"
says Chris Kogut.
The micro-brewery can only produce three barrels per brew session. Chris
says they have been brewing steadily. He says he can't wait for the big
day where customers can finally try their two new local products.
"I think that it does nothing but expand our local culture here.. It's
something that the community can take pride in," says Talgo.
Jason Hemmerick, a regular at Nail Creek says this doesn't happen every day.
"You don't see a new company just open up like this... I think this will be
good for the area," says Hemmerick.
On Friday, Nail Creek Pub and Brew will officially become the 2nd largest
brewery to the FX Matt Brewery in town.
