While many people are enjoying the Thanksgiving holiday with food and family, there are those working as always in case of emergency.  It's important not to forget the many firefighters, police officers, nurses, and other people who are busy working to ensure the safety and health of our area.

Eyewitness News spoke with some emergency responders from the Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps right after they finished their own thanksgiving meal.

"It's a little quieter the administration staff isn't here so we tend to just relax a little bit," says COCVAC Director of Operations Steve Dziura.  "We had a dinner tonight.  A lot of camaraderie going on and just suffering through working the holiday together."

The COCVAC provides ambulance service to five area townships.  "I absolutely love this," says Dziura, "There's nothing more rewarding than going out and helping folks and making a difference every day."

And he says it can be even more rewarding on a holiday. "It's sad going out and making emergency calls we hope it's an absolutely quiet day," says Dziura, "but just being able to go out and make a difference and help them out in their time of need is very rewarding."

I know Steve,as a neighbor, and some of these other of COCVAC from personal experience. They are wonderful and it does not surprise me to hear them talk of working the holiday in such a carefree manner. They are great EMTs any day-- holidays they are just that much more special.
