Trial Date Set for Correctional Officer Accused of Sexual Abuse

By: Jennifer Lee
Updated: December 6, 2011
The former Mohawk correctional facility officer facing sex charges against two children was back in Oneida County Court Tuesday morning.
50-year-old Donald Hughes is accused of molesting his step grandchildren. Hughes faced Judge Barry Donalty for a Huntley or evidentiary hearing to determine whether or not Hughes' statements said to police can be used in trial.
Tuesday's hearing also examined whether or not Hughes' rights were violated. Hughes can face up to fifty years in prison if he is found guilty of every charge and sentenced consecutively.
A trial date is set for next year on January 9th.
