Rome Mayor
James Brown's campaign committee and the Friends of Jim Brown supports the
Oneida County GOP Committee Chairman, George Mitchell's call for the
resignation of the Republican Board of Election's Commissioner Pamela Mandryck.
Campaign Chairman, Alan Spindler says registered voters in Rome witnessed the chaos
and complete dysfunction on primary day in September and November.
"Clearly the commissioner was in over her head and is unable to lead or manage
that office. The fact is that no other county in New York State experienced
this level of confusion and inability to deliver an election process and
results in a timely and professional manner," says Spindler.
Spindler
says seeking support of the GOP commissioner was like "pulling teeth." He says
the campaign committee never felt confident that she had preparations made for
hiring or training of poll workers. He says there continues to be a feeling of "no
confidence" in her ability to do the job.
Mandryck issued this statement to Eyewitness News:
"When one reads the entire press
release, including its point of origin, it is more than interesting that the
message was released by a member of the County Executive's staff...One can only
deduce that the County Chairman is acquiescing to the demands of the County
Executive....The County Executive is unhappy with the day-to-day operations of
the board of elections based upon comments from a dissatisfied staff member at
the board who has been relieved of some of her previous responsibility due to
necessity. "
Mandryck
says the law explicitly establishes the board of elections as a separate
entity, to prevent elected officials from having any influence on the election
process. Mandryck says this is not the first time episode of attempted
manipulation and she says she's been "definitively advised that it will
not be the last.
Mitchell's request for Mandryck's resignation comes after the Oneida County
Executive, Anthony Picente, Jr. called for the audit of the Board of Elections
office.
