The Winter Feeling

Mother Nature is finally ready to match the cold temperatures with some snowfall. That of course means area departments of public works are forced to deal messy roads. It's been a pretty green winter so far in Central New York. In fact we are seventy-one percent likely to have a white Christmas on any given year. Now, three days after Christmas is the first evidence of winter and some Central New Yorkers are glad to finally see some snow. "It's been a long summer and It though we wasn't going to get no snow until around about the beginning of January to the middle of January or something because I have saw it before, it came down pretty hard today. " The winter season appears to be in full effect and that requires area public works to get to snow and ice duty. Utica DPW began plowing at nine this morning and they don't plan on stopping anytime soon. "Well we'll probably be in full force after 11 tonight, so hopefully everyone will be off the road by then. But between now and 11 just watch out, be aware that there are plows out there, we are salting, we will be plowing sometime we can't see certain things until the last so just be careful out there around us." There certainly was a fair share of travelers off the road but most drivers found the roads bearable. "This morning it was a little slippery and slow going but we made it from Boonville to Utica, ready to do it again tonight on the way home. This is great, hopefully we get some more." It may be the first real snow but the d-p-w is planning ahead for the days to come. "From 6 on we'll still be out plowing and salting, the main concern now is make sure the roads don't ice over, temperatures are supposed to go down into the 20's, so we'll keep laying salt down all night long until tomorrow morning."
