Marshall Jackson is charged with the murder of Anthony Garner, and if convicted, Jackson could face 25 years to life in prison.
The prosecution presented a video to the jury in court Tuesday of the violent crime to the jury today. The video shows a group of people chasing, beating, and shooting a man authorities say is Anthony garner. UPD Officer George DeAngelo was near the intersection of James and Steuben Streets in the early morning of May 25, 2011 when he and another officer heard gunshots. As the officers neared the intersection, they saw a man, who was later taken into custody and identified as Marshall Jackson.
Tuesday in court the prosecution played that surveillance video taken from the area. Referring to that video, the prosecutor asked DeAngelo about what everyone was seeing, confirming the man seen shooting Garner was Jackson. As the video continues, if you look carefully, you can see a flash from the gun shot. The officer says that flash is a muzzle flash from the gun being fired. After that, the shooter and other ran off.
The defense questioned DeAngelo about an unidentified man DeAngelo saw at the scene. DeAngelo says he told the man to stop after the shooting, but the man walked off down an alley, where DeAngelo lost sight of him. Also there was another weapon found in a nearby alley that night. The defense raised questions about that gun and the unidentified man.
