Emotional Day in Court as Patterson Trial Continues

It was an extremely emotional day in the court room as the Christian Patterson trial got underway.  Family, friends, and co-workers of Deputy Kurt Wyman were all in court as the prosecution and defense began to present their cases.  From his family, to those who took the stand, and Christian Patterson himself, tears were shed today.

In the prosecution's opening statements, they describe the day Deputy Wyman was shot in great detail.  First assistant district attorney Michael Coluzza discusses Patterson's tumultuous relationship with his girlfriend, Shannon Secor.  Patterson's aggressive behavior and the domestic dispute with Shannon were also talked about.  Coluzza describes a phone call between Patterson and a friend. In that call Patterson reportedly said "I'm locked and loaded.  I'm not going to jail.  I'm staying in my house."    Coluzza says officials were met with resistance from the start.  And it was a misunderstanding of instructions that put Wyman in the line of fire.

A neighbor recounts what he heard between officials and Patterson.  "You could hear the yelling back and forth they were talking about Shannon," says Matthew Kazlauskas, "and you tell he was upset...There was swearing going on back and forth."

As the standoff continued, Patterson grew quiet.  Kazlauskas recalls what one of the officers said as the night went on, "Basically just saying come on Chris, it's over Chris put the gun down Chris, come on Chris it's all over Chris...And there was no response from Chris."

Secor ran to Kazlauskas' home following her dispute with Patterson, where she says he was violent with her.  She recalls some of what happened prior to 911 being called.  When prosecutors asked if she was afraid for her life she replied, "Yes I was."  When asked if he said something to make her think he'd hurt her she said, "He kept saying you're done bitch, you're done."
