Instead of flowers or a box of chocolates, one Utica woman has something a little different on this day of love.

Thanks to a contest by Joanne Fanelli Hair Fashions, Joan Calhoun received a complete Valentine's Day Hair Makeover.

Joan's family friend entered her in the contest stating why she deserved to get a special Valentine treatment.

Ms. Calhoun's house was burglarized back in November, she lost many of her irreplaceable belongings.

"We've never done anything like this before. I've been in business for 26 years, and this is the first. We're going to be doing a texture treatment to give her hair a little more body and I'm going to follow that with a little bit of semi-permanent color glaze, and a haircut," said Joanne Fanelli-Babiarz.

"I am truly humbled that somebody even thought enough to nominate me. It was from the right, and it fits right into Valentines," said contest winner, Joan Calhoun.

Fanelli says she hopes to continue the tradition of giving Valentine's Day makeovers in the upcoming years.
