In the information age, where you can get your news instantaneously, the brewery decided to do join in. Saranac makes beverages enjoyed in social settings... So it's a natural fit to use social media. America's second oldest brewery is using the latest technology to spread the word about a unique event.
"It is very grassroots, we throw it out there, we put it on Facebook and kind of whoever shows up shows up. In the craft brewing industry there's a lot of these little events that just pop up so we think it's kind of neat. We pick a Friday and we hope that everybody will come down and join us and so far we've been packed every time we do it."
The event may not be highly publicized but they get a great turn out and it shows that area businesses still make an impact in the local economy. "Well it's kind of neat we get local folks that brew beer, that enjoy beer and they all make a point to coming to events like this."
The grassroots effort made it outside the Greater Utica Area, even to a different area code. "I trekked through the snow, came all the way from Albany, they have great food, free pizza which you can't beat and it's a great atmosphere here at Saranac." Others say they keep an eye out for the notification because it's a great opportunity to meet familiar and new people. "I think it's a lot of word of mouth, maybe like the internet, Facebook messaging things like that. But it's good to see that a lot of people show up for it. It tell you a lot of people are interested in it and people still enjoy coming down having time with each other, having time down at the brewery and everything."
