Building programs takes time and the lacrosse team has devoted that time. This year the continentals enter a tough conference that has four national championships to their name.
It's become common place for college teams to switch conferences. And Hamilton decided it was best to head to the NESCAC. As a result the lacrosse team enters quite possibly the best lacrosse conference in the county. "It's our first year jumping into the NESCAC, you know I think our team is ready, excited about the opportunity. You know we went into this looking at it as a great challenge but also a great opportunity, you know we've been building for this for the last four and five years."
When the new staff came in they took over a program with a losing record and took on the challenge of changing the culture of a program. "Just the level of competition, the level of recruits that have come in just has been unbelievable, this program is really going in the right direction. You see it through he improvement in our record and the type of kids were accepting here and the kids on the team."
Two games into the new season and the Continentals can already see a difference in their new conference. "Every game you have to get up for because every team is going to be just a competition for all 60 minutes and every team is very talented. Whereas in the Liberty League, not that there are worse teams but there's some that aren't as talented as the rest of them."
An 0-2 start isn't what Hamilton imagined but their tenacity remains steadfast. "But I feel, to be honest with you, as confident as I did last week, I feel that today. I mean we went up against the number two team in the county, umm you know I think our team competed at an unbelievably high level. And sometimes you know the outcomes not how you want it but we still have a great team."
