4% State Sales Tax on Clothing Eliminated

By: WUTR Eyewitness News
Updated: June 6, 2012
State Senator Joseph Griffo announced a tax cut yesterday on clothing and related items under $110.

And it's not an April Fool's joke, Griffo says the new 4% tax cut will save the average family of four about $200 a year.

"When family budgets are strained to the max every little bit helps and it can't come at a better time. While the economy is slowly regaining its strength, families are still struggling," Griffo said. "The four-percent state portion of the sales tax was eliminated in an effort to help consumers save money while bringing in additional revenue to stores throughout the state."

The elimination of this tax is expected to save taxpayers around $210 million.
