Utica Increases Fines for Parking Violations

If you think you can get away with parking illegally in the City of Utica, think again.
The Utica Common Council has approved an increase in the fines for parking violations.
As of April 1, 2012, the new fine amounts are as follows:
*Penalties for parking, standing or stopping violations (other than handicapped zone) was raised from $20 to $50.
*If the violator fails to appear or pay the prescribed fine within 72 hours of the offense, the fine will increase to $100.
*Upon expiration of the 72 hour period, the Traffic Violations Bureau shall cause to be sent to the registered owner of the vehicle a citation to the effect that the fine has increased from $50 to $100 and a warning that, unless the fine is paid or an appearance made within 10 days of the citation, the fine shall be increased to $125.
*Handicapped parking zones. Penalties for unlawful parking on account of standing or stopping in a handicapped zone was raised to $60.
*If the violator fails to appear or pay the fine within 72 hours of the offense, the fine will increase to $70.
*Upon expiration of the 72 period, the Traffic Violations Bureau shall cause to be sent to the registered owner of the vehicle a citation to the effect that the fine has increased from $60 to $70 and a warning that unless the fine is paid or an appearance made within 10 days of the citation, the fine will be increased to $75.
