After a five year battle, the City of Utica has gotten the news that it will be able top operate it's own ambulance service.
The Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court confirmed the city's right to the ambulance service Thursday afternoon.
Utica Fire Chief Russell Brooks says the future of the program has been somewhat up in the air.
He says the news stabilizes the city ambulance program and gives employees a direction of where they will be going.
"This is a great day for the people in the city of Utica, today they confirmed what we have said right along, that there is a need for us to run an ambulance service," said Chief Russell Brooks.
Chief Brooks says with this service continuing, and Kunkel Ambulance responding as well, the city will be better served.
