It began when Ilion High School teacher, Jim Mott didn't have the best marathon time, and one of his students joked that he could beat his time.
Mr. Mott challenged his student, and ended up beating him.
In addition to running, the students are also raising money for a former Ilion graduate who has battled cancer.
"It was incredible because I didn't realize, until now, how much support I have from my friends and my community around me, so it was a really big shock, and I'm really happy that it's going on today," said Ilion Graduate, Kayleigh Coupe.
"A lot of kids just want to prove that they can do it...I'm always amazed, there's only been two kids that haven't finished over the last five years," said Mott.
Around 30 students signed up for the marathon.
