The school held their Community Readers Day this morning to encourage students to read over the summer by giving them book lists, and helping them get library cards.
One student says events like these encourage her to read now and into her future.
"I actually appreciate it because everyone likes to read, and they read to the kids and everything and it's really helpful. And once you're older, you can encourage your own kid," says 4th grader Jasmina Ahmetasevic.
Utica city officials, government representatives, policeman, judges, and other community notables came out to Watson Williams to read to students ranging from kindergarten to 6th grade.
