A Central New York woman is now dead following a situation possibly involving "Bath Salts."

State police were called to North Main Street in the Village of Munnsville Tuesday night for a woman assaulting her three-year-old child.

As troopers responded, they say they got calls saying the woman was punching and choking the young child and assaulting a next door neighbor.

Officials say the woman, Pamela McCarthy, resisted arrested and the use of pepper spray didn't work.

The trooper then used a taser to get control of McCarthy

Officials say they believe McCarthy was under the influence of bath salts and as EMS responded, they say McCarthy went into apparent cardiac arrest and was taken to a health care facility where she later died.

Eyewitness News spoke with neighbors Wednesday night about what they had witnessed.

"It doesn't happen in Munnsville, it just doesn't happen here," said neighbor Missy Love.

It's an event that's left the Munnsville community in shock after and after eye-witnessing the terrifying behavior of Pamela McCarthy with her 3-year-old, Missy Love says she knew she needed to call for help.

"She was carrying her boy right out in front of her, not in a way that you would normally see a mother carry their child. She was just kind of dangling him in front of her and she was screaming . There were a couple of boys playing basketball and she was screaming at one of them and chasing them with her son. A few minutes later she came back around the corner holding the boy again, and she was completely naked, and that's when I said I need to call," said Love.

Love says she didn't see any of the punching and strangling of the child that was reported in several 911 calls, but she wasn't alone in seeing McCarthy's behavior.

"I saw her hold her child like this and fall right from the top of stairs all the way to the bottom and landed right on his body and he hit his head," said neighbor, Ryleigh Kimball.

State Police say information from the scene led investigators to believe that McCarthy was under the influence of bath salts.

Kimball says that dabbling in drugs wasn't uncommon for McCarthy.

"She did it a lot, she was constantly ....high...and she'd always be with the cops constantly doing something wrong," said Kimball.

"She absolutely needed help. Anybody that can first of all run around stark naked in the middle of the day going back and forth across the busy street chasing people...that's somebody that needs help," said Love.
