Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare and St. Elizabeth Medical Center have each been awarded just over $7 million in grants.
The two hospital chiefs tell Eyewitness News that nearly 200 hospitals applied for the grant, and the Utica area hospitals are two of 40 that were awarded.
With that money, President of Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare, Scott Perra and St. Elizabeth Medical Center President, Richard Ketcham say they are hoping to pay for a study to examine successful joint efforts.
"Studying this and trying to come up with a best model that will work for the residents of the Mohawk Valley going forward is not an easy task," said Perra.
"It costs a lot, to hire the consultants, and the lawyers to help us through this process," said Ketcham.
The two hospitals have each been awarded $7.1 million.
A portion of the grant money will go toward a study to look at the best ways of working together.
