As the investigation continues into the Deerfield murder-suicide case that resulted in two deaths, experts say this crime is an extreme case of domestic violence.

The YWCA says domestic violence in our area is on the rise and is underreported.

But, the organization says there are services available for victims. Reports show that 27-year-old Thomas Anderson killed his ex-girlfriend Kylie Turczyn because he was distraught over their break-up.

Police say Anderson went into Turcyzn's residence on Carver Street and got into a verbal fight with her.

They say he shot and killed the 23-year-old and then turned the gun on himself. Experts say this horrific crime is an extreme form of domestic violence.

"We all take them as a dangerous situation that can end up like this. So we treat everyone the same," said Deb Galotti, the Residential Services Director at the YWCA. Galotti they provide shelter for women facing domestic and sexual violence.

"That doesn't mean they get beat. It means that there is an emotional, verbal or fear that something could happen and it's not safe there," said Galotti.

Representatives from the organization want victims of violence to know they are here to help.

Although victims do turn to family and friends, the YWCA says the abuser may know where they live. "We bring them into shelter and we work with them with their goals. Do we need to get you an apartment or an order of protection.  Sometimes it's a chance for them to get their head on straight. We don't tell them what to do," said Galotti.

Statistics show women go back to the abuser six or seven times. The YWCA also offers a 24/7 hotline and it's not just available for victims but for family members and friends who want to or need help.
