At least a half dozen fires Central New York have happened in the last 48 hours! The fires over the last couple days have left some people homeless.

The American Red Cross of the Mohawk Valley has always been there to step in. But, since its fiscal year began on July 1st, the Red Cross has already spent 15% of its annual budget.

Volunteers say the Mohawk Valley Chapter of the Red Cross has helped 51 people in the last 13 days. Even though it's been a busy few weeks, they say their commitment keeps them going.

"Because we've had 6 fires in less than 48 hours, there are a few people running on very little sleep right now, but it's what we do, what we care about - so we're proud and happy to be able to represent our whole community as these people recover from these devastating circumstances," says Edith Buffalohead, American Red Cross of the Mohawk Valley.

Not only is the Red Cross being depleted of its physical resources, its human resources are feeling the drain, too. Volunteers say they could go 4 to 5 times over their annual disaster budget.

They are asking for help from the community they serve.

If you are in a position to help, please contact the Mohawk Valley Chapter of the Red Cross.
