Statewide Residential Burning Ban

As a result of the many fires - not just in our area - Governor Cuomo is urging all New Yorkers to take extra pre- cautions.
As dry weather conditions have led to a heightened danger of wildfires across Central New York, the state issued a residential burn ban for 90 days starting today through October 10th. The Utica Assistant Fire Chief says it's due to the lack of rain and dry weather.
"We've had 10 to12 days with no rain whatsoever and high heat and sun, so everything is dried out quite a bit. We've had several fires in the adirondacks because things are so dry, we had a major grass fire in the city this past week, so it can happen very quickly and very easily," says George Clark, Utica Asst. Fire Chief.
Weather forecasts predict above normal temperatures, elevating the risk for wildfires across New York. The Governor says violators of the open burning regulation can face criminal and civil enforcement action.
