If you send your mail from the post office on Pitcher Street in Utica - your days are numbered.
The functions of the area post office are being transferred to Syracuse as part of a nationwide consolidation by the U.S. Postal Service.
Spokeswoman Maureen Marion says the move has to do with mail volume. Former customers are turning to the internet more and more. About 100 employees are being offered transfer options or retirement incentives. Marion says they are trying to avoid lay-offs.
The Pitcher Street Post Office has already begun moving mailing equipment to Syracuse. Marion says the postal service hopes to be finished with the move by August.
