Some Oneida County Jail inmates were out planting trees and flowers today in South Utica.

This is part of the inmate educational work program. The inmates will help beautify Wonkel Park as well as build a grand entrance.

Oneida county Legislator Daniel Trevisani says this is way for the City of Utica and the county to work together that will cost taxpayers nothing for labor.

"It's a win win situation for both. The inmates get an education through a horticultural program and the city gets a beautiful grand entrance in South Utica's only baseball park. The park, the condition of the park was deteriorating," said Oneida County Legislator Daniel Trevisani, D-19.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office says this program will help inmates work as a team.

The program also provides an opportunity for inmates to develop skills that can help them find jobs when they complete their jail sentence.
