Some residents in Cornhill and West Utica may be able to improve their homes.

The Municipal Housing Authority has 300 thousand dollars available for home repairs and improvements to homeowner occupied buildings in the Cornhill or West Utica designated areas. Funds are available to assist low-income homeowners improve their home, and improve the community.

"It's good for the homeowner to have a safe place to live and if you have a nice home, you feel good about your self. It's good for the community because it shows utica is improving. I think it should be done all across new york state to show that new york state is improving and it just gives the community a good sense about themselves," says Mary Khiemdavanh, Rebuild Mohawk Valley, Inc.

The Housing Authority says they have helped restore 55 homes in the area so far. To be eligible for the home preservation program, households must meet certain income requirements.
