Strawberries, tomatoes, bananas - the list goes on - are more abundant as the temps heat up.  Health and Wellness Consultant Pat Salzer says the availability of produce during the summer allows taste and health to happily co-exist.

"Fruits and vegetables are actually very filling they have fiber they have a high water content, so with that it does make them filling without filling you out."

We all know how expensive fresh fruits and vegetables can be.  But don't be fooled - eating healthy can be good news for your wallet - and your health in the long run.

"What's really expensive is to be sick," says Salzer, "You can't put a price tag on your health."

She offers some simple solutions to staying on a tight budget and staying on a diet full of fruits and vegetables.

"One is to buy fruits and vegetables that are in season; you might even be able to grow your own and then it's very economical that way; and then if you do some meal planning so you're not wasting food--that also makes it very economical."

And when it comes to eating organic - if it has a peel, like a banana, it's not necessary to spend the extra bucks.  But for fruits such as strawberries - Salzer suggests they may be worth the extra splurging.  And if you simply must have a piece of that blueberry pie - try picking your own blueberries and baking it yourself.
