Residents in the city of Utica may soon be able to adopt a park and actually maintain it.
Utica Common Council Member Joe Marino says this plan would not only alleviate pressure on the Department of Public Works, but it will also allow the community to get involved.
The DPW and the Parks & Recreational Department are currently considering the idea introduced by Councilman Marino.
"A lot of non-for-profits like to get involved in these things historically. But, it can be anybody from a young couple that lives across a street from the park and want to take pride in where they live and they want to be involved in the clean-up and those aspects in their area," said Councilman Marino, 4th Ward.
If the ordinance is passes, contracts will be made between the city and volunteer groups.
