City of Rome cracking down on residents not properly disposing their trash

The rules are getting stricter for taking out the trash. The City of Rome is cracking down on residents not following proper protocol.

Mayor Joseph Fusco says people who don't follow regulations will be getting a red sticker. He says each household can have three containers out on trash day.

Not only will following the rules help taxpayers, but Mayor Fusco says it beneficial for the environment.

"People are not recycling like they should be. And if they have to start paying by the pound to get rid of it, they'll take a little more time and effort so they can recycle it and remove some of it in the waste stream," said Mayor Fusco.

The mayor says residents can have the option of removing it from the curb within 24 hours or can pay a fee.
