A Piece of Americana

The roar of a V-8 has become music to car lovers ears and when it comes from a Chevrolet Corvette it's a piece of Americana. The 'Vette was first built in 1953 and it was in popular demand from day one.

'57 Corvette owner Jeff Jones says,  "You know to me the Corvette was the true car to come out to compete against the European cars, the Jaguars. And all those others and after a while you came out with some really great other American cars but the Corvette always seemed to be the car that was the true American apple pie."

            Gear heads young and old may argue about old classics versus the technology driven cars of today. But it seems no matter your age the Corvette transcends generations.

            Camero owner Robert Moran says, "Who can even compare with a Corvette as far as sports car? Like I said I have a Camero, it's a nice car but it's not a Corvette, a Mustangs a nice car but it's not a Corvette"

            Jones says, "It just signifies America, and I thought this car as far as a muscle car as far as one of the first muscle cars it really signifies this country."

            1962 Corvette owner Ron Draper says, "For the old ones, the C-1's, it's like being in a time machine. You know it takes you back to the '60's."

            Corvettes are not cheap machines, in 1953 they were just under $3,500. But since the average salary in that same year was $4,000. Many 'Vette owners saved up for years. And that's just what David Wainman did. It took years.

            He says, "I've always wanted one, I could never afford one. I'd skimp and save and go without. Friends would go out and I'd stay home until I got to the point where I could buy one and 2011 was the year I was able to buy one."

            Mike from Utica, a 2013 'Vette owner says, "Ever since I was a kid I've loved Corvettes, I think every boy in my generation and before is a sports car fan and the Corvettes the top car."
