As many children are heading back to school this week, one organization is prepping some students for the new school year.
The United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica Area collected and distributed nearly 500 pounds of school supplies thanks to their 2nd Annual Back-to-School Drive.
Ten area agencies and programs received these supplies and will be giving them away to help alleviate the financial burden for families.
"You're wondering who is in your class and you're not sure how it's going to go. And there is a lot of things kids worry about when school starts. The last thing I want them to worry about is do I have pens paper and crayons. So when we make sure they have the supplies they need, they start off with confidence," said Brenda Episcopo, Executive Director of the United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica Area.
Catholic Charities in Oneida and Herkimer Counties have set up distribution sites.
