A Downtown Utica restaurant celebrated it's grand opening tonight, and it celebrated for a good cause. Swifty's Restaurant and Pub held a ribbon cutting ceremony tonight. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Mohawk Valley Down Syndrome Support Group. The owner says the event was a great way to promote Swifty's, while also sending an important message.

"There's not enough awareness when it comes to any children with disabilities, or individuals with disabilities. To be able to help to promote that is important to me, having a daughter with a disability," says David Wood, restaurant owner.

"For a grand opening, that he didn't have to do this, to give some of his proceeds back is very special and we're so grateful for that," says Kathy Hartnett, Mohawk Valley Down Syndrome Support Group.

Community members and government officials took part in the fun festivities that included live entertainment and free give-a-ways. Swifty's is next to the Stanley Theater in the former 257 Steakhouse site.
