Today marks the first day of National Sheriff's Week. To honor it Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente presented a proclamation to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol.

Sheriff Maciol accepted the recognition on behalf of all past and present sheriffs and the Oneida County Sheriff's Office. Mr. Picente says it's important to recognize the men and women who serve the county every day.

"When you look at the history of Oneida County it was one of the first departments created. The Office of the Sheriff was created back in 1798 when the county was incorporated. It's significant in that regard and it's important to say thanks every now and then," said Picente.

There are over 400 employees that work for the Oneida County Sheriff's Office.
