Whether it's your guilty pleasure or go to condiment, salt is common in almost every meal we eat.
But, it's become so common that children are eating as much in their diets as adults, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
And the reason? Janine Jaquays, a registered Dietician at St. Elizabeth Medical Center says a lot has to do with lifestyle.
"It's just the change in our dietary habits today. I think people are really more inactive then they were years ago, less physical activity, the foods especially in today's economy. They may be buying less fruits and vegetables, they may have lessen their diet," said Jaquays.
Jaquays also says diet forming habits with food start at home.
"If the dietary habits at home don't include fruits and vegetables, and just a lot of convenience foods and processed foods, then kids are going to eat what's available to them," she said.
And while kids salt intake is increasing, society is doing what they can to promote healthy eating.
"Michelle Obama has a great 'Lets Move' program, the school lunch program is changing, reducing the sodium intake within the next ten years, so lets hope that that will help kids today," said Jaquays.
