The price to feed dairy animals is skyrocketing, according to Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand. Recent droughts have driven production costs up for many area farmers. Now the two senators are calling for the USDA to help them out. One area dairy farmer says the drought caused a shortage of some ingredients in his herd's feed.

Dairy Farmer David Collins says, "Some are going to have to buy hay or something to replace the hay because they didn't get enough in. I mean a lot of us are planting rye or something similar to that to get another crop off the corn fields in the spring."

Mr. Collins says some help from the USDA could go a long way for many who are facing tough times.
