As the weather is getting chilly, you've probably noticed leaves are changing color and falling all over your lawn or car.

Either way October marks the first week for the Utica Department of Public Works to pick up loose leaves.

The commissioner says for the next five weeks or so, residents can rake their leaves in a pile on the curb for pick up.

"Really the concern is winter time we don't want to have the leaves out all on the streets. We will do our hardest to get out and make sure everything is picked up. Sometimes the leaf piles become very big and they go on the middle of the road so that is something to become aware of," said Utica DPW Commissioner, Dave Short.

The Commissioner wants to remind residents that green waste must still be put into containers for pick up.
