The murder suspect in Utica's first homicide of the year was arraigned in Oneida County Court Friday morning.

42-year-old Jemal Gadson pleaded not guilty to allegedly killing Jermaine Stubbs of Utica back in July. Gadson was found hiding out at his aunt's house in North Carolina. He was recently extradited back to the Empire State.

Gadson is charged with 2nd degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

"He will return at a later court date to report to the judge to see if they are interested in a pre-trial offer. I can't comment on the facts with it pending," said Oneida County Assistant D.A., Robert Bauer.

Gadson is accused of shooting and killing Stubbs on Lenox Avenue. Police say this incident may have been a result of a fight outside a bar on Varick Street. Gadson is scheduled back in Oneida County Court on October 26th.
