Law enforcement gathered at 6668 Seavy Road in Marcy at 5pm. An individual on the property spotted the woman in the water and called 911. That's when a state trooper found her lying face down on the edge of the pond. Officials says the investigation is just beginning.
"It's very early on. We're going to maintain security for the evening. We'll have to search the area to see if we can come up with any reasoning behind why this person drowned. Right now, we don't know why she died and we don't know why she was in the pond. And it's just so early in the investigation, I don't want to speculate on what caused her death," says Captain Francis Coots, NYS Police.
Captain Coots says they don't know if the drowning is accidental or intentional. Officers secured the property a few hours ago and investigators will be back tomorrow morning to resume investigation. Officials say the autopsy will determine the exact cause of death and when the woman died. And Eyewitness News will keep you updated as more information comes available.
