It's been almost 4 years to the day that Ilion and Mohawk Central School Districts first explored a possible merger. Tonight these two districts explored the option of going back to that original idea.

Ilion Superintendent Cosimo Tangorra says, "The two boards are going to get together to see if we want to move in the same direction, make sure we're all on the same base and if we are decide on what direction we want to move."

If the two districts decide to go forward with a merger. Tangorra says it would still mean added services for less cost.

He added, "Beginning in the '13-'14 school year approximately $42 million in incentive aid so that would certainly allow a combined district to offer a more enhanced program than it currently does."

But, there are still many unanswered questions pertaining to a two school merger.

"It would require support for SED and special legislation, and then it would require another community vote. So, there are a lot of questions and steps in the process that need to be taken and that's the whole reason why we're meeting tonight to see whether or not these two districts are interested in moving in that same direction" says Tangorra.
