The first court appearance has been set for the Utica man arrested on charges of war crimes.

Sulejman Mujagic has been charged with the unlawful killing of the enemy and unlawful wounding and torture of a prisoner of war.

Mujagic is being held in Cayuga County and is set to go in front of a judge in Syrcause on Monday for an initial extradition hearing.

Mujagic was arrested during an early morning raid on South St. in Utica.

The charges against him date back to March 1995 when authorities say he murdered a captured solider and then tortured another who were fighting on behalf of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As for what will happen at his first court appearance, Sgt. Steve Hauck with the Utica Police Department says there are several scenarios based on what Mujagic has to say in court.

Sgt. Hauck says based on what happens Monday, it could play out over years and just weeks.
