Two of the Valley's school districts are giving it one last shot.

Today, both Ilion and Mohawk Central School Districts submitted their petitions to the New York State Department of Education.

Both schools submitted signatures regarding a two-school district merger.

Two petitions had to be filed by today. One included a list of at least 100 signatures from both schools in favor of a vote.

The other had signatures in favor of allowing a voting place at Mohawk.

Ilion's superintendent says the next step will be residents hitting the polls.

"There will be three propositions. They are either in favor of or opposed of the reorganizations. And they will decide if the new board will have 5, 7 or 9 school board members and they will also determine how long those terms will be, 3,4 or 5 year terms," said Ilion's Superintendent, Cosimo Tangorra.

Mr. Tangorra says they're expecting the vote to be on February 12th.

If the merger is passed, the new school district will begin to operate on July 1st.
