According to the CDC, there has been an increase in Whooping Cough around the nation.

Because of that increase, Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare is following new CDC guidelines for pregnant women and caregivers of newborns.

The CDC is recommending that after the third month of pregnancy, women should receive a vaccination.

"This is going to help protect our infants who are most vulnerable. Children under the age of two months are vulnerable to the Whooping Cough and it can even cause death," said Lesa Steele, the Assistant Nurse Manager of Maternal Child Services at FSLHC.

Experts say family members can receive those boosters from places like a primary physician and public health clinics.
