Spring cleanup is just around the corner for Central New York. Area organizations kicked off the region's spring cleanup efforts at the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority today.
It's being called "Keep Mohawk Valley Beautiful" and this year organizers are expanding their efforts within Oneida and Herkimer counties.
The movement is part of a national effort known as the Great American Cleanup. Organizers are looking for volunteers to help clean roadways, parks and neighborhoods.
"After the winter time here, obviously litter is just strewn around and it just blows and people drop garbage. So, it's very important to do it in the spring and start the summer time off on the right foot," said Tim Birnie, President of Rome Clean & Green.
Organizers are able to expand the green initiative on a regional level this year thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation.
