Herkimer Remembers 9/11

            The Village of Herkimer and the Herkimer Garden Club honored those who lost their lives on September 11^th 2001 by donating a bench in Myers Park."It's a day of remembrance, it's something that you never forget. I did go down there after for a day, as a group, it was just total devastation something that you could never forget," said Village of Herkimer Fire Chief John Spanfelner.

            Ten years have passed since John was at Ground Zero, today the Village of Herkimer remember those who lost their lives. Herkimer Mayor Mark Ainsworth reflects on the images of that day "The Twin Towers, The Pentagon, the field in Pennsylvania from flight 93. I think you see those images ingrained in your thoughts. Hopefully this garden will help people remember that but also remember the good that came out of it."

            The project only took a month from conception to ceremony and everyone involved knows how important today's events were "It was very important for our village; we are the county seat and have a lot of history behind us, the historic village of Herkimer. It was our way of saying thank you to all who have come before us and the victims of 9/11 and the people who are involved, " said Carolyn Neverusky, president of the Herkimer Garden Club.
