Flooded basements aren't the only the damage the two hurricanes brought to our area.  The heavy rains slowed down blood donations to the American Red Cross.  Due to the weather, many donation sites were forced to cancel their blood drives. The Site Supervisor at the New Hartford Red Cross says collections are very low right now. They need people to come in and donate blood or platelets so that they can provide for those in need.

"A lot of people that I've known just don't recognize the need until they know people that are in need of it," said Matthew Christiano of the New Hartford Red Cross.  He says it takes about 30 minutes to give blood, and 2 hours to give platelets.  Christiano suggests calling ahead to make an appointment if you're interested in donating.
