State Troopers Continue to Search for Soldier on the Run

            The search continues for the soldier on the run.  Police say Russell Marcum had been arrested for burglary and was out on bail. He was being transported to Fort Drum's home base where New York State Troopers say it would have been decided where Marcum would stay until his criminal matters were over.  Police say when he arrived at the base he assaulted the soldier driving him, stole a car, and took off.  State police caught up with him near Route 92 and Route 20 where the chase began. He was heading east on Route 20 when he lost control of the car and began to run on foot.

            As of this afternoon, Keller said police were continuing to search for Marcum on Route 20 South in Otsego and Herkimer counties. State troopers met at their command post to discuss what other areas to search.  Trooper Keller says they have search dogs and helicopters helping them out.

            Multiple troopers and their vehicles were along Route 20 this afternoon and a helicopter was circling above looking down at the brush below.  Mount Markam Central School District in West Winfield kept students inside all day and had troopers guarding the entrance.

Marcum is 6'3" and180lbs.  He has brown hair and blue eyes and was last seen wearing his military uniform.  Police believe he has a weapon on him and is considered armed and dangerous.  Keller says you can help out police by checking any sheds or garages where the man could easily hide.  And of course if you see anything suspicious call 9-1-1.
