If you're a Herkimer County resident who is still dealing with the affects from Hurricane Irene, FEMA has come to help. FEMA has set up a Disaster Recovery Center in Herkimer to provide face to face assistance with those who need advice and assistance with applying for aid. FEMA is working with the NY State Insurance Department and the US Small Business Administration and specialists from these agencies are on site at the recovery center as well. Public Information Officer for FEMA Peter Lembessis says that aid is being offered to those in Herkimer County who experienced damage from Hurricane Irene between August 26th and September 5th. He says residents can stop by to register and apply for FEMA aid and loans with the SBA. You can also receive any recommendations and information needed to deal with the damage.
The deadline to apply for aid from FEMA for Hurricane Irene damage is October 31st. The Recovery Center is open from 8 AM - 8 PM Monday through Saturday. The Center is located in the Walmart parking lot in Herkimer on 103 North Caroline Street. Lembessis says they will be there for as long as the county needs them. You can also register and apply for FEMA by calling 1-800-621-FEMA, or by visiting disasterassistance.gov.
