Herkimer Woman trapped in vehicle for 40 minutes

A 34-year-old Herkimer woman is recovering tonight after she was trapped for 40 minutes following a car crash.
The crash happened on McKennan Rd. in Herkimer around 4 p.m.
The driver of the vehicle, Jessica Schaffer lost control of the vehicle and the car landed in a ditch.
The vehicle overturned and she was throw, but trapped underneath heavy metal.
State Police tell Eyewitness News she suffered a broken leg, and she is being treated at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
"The patient was semi-conscious at the time that we were here and able to communicate with us. We had to use jaws of life and various methods to extricate the patient from under the vehicle," said Fire Chief of East Herkimer Fire Department, Benjamin Keller.
Eyewitness News was told only one car was involved in the accident.
The investigation is continuing, and no tickets have been issued at this time.
