Utica Zoo gets a "Spooktacular" transformation

The 24th annual Spooktacular is underway at the Utica Zoo.

Director of Utica Zoo, Andria Delisle-Heath says a couple thousand people are expected a night for the event.

All the proceeds from Friday night go to the zoo to help take care of the animals.

Many of the kids out tonight say there was one particular thing that gave them a scream.

"It's really creepy because there's like a bunch of guys with chainsaws chasing you and stuff," said Erin Spina.

For first timer, Louisa Pandolfo, it wasn't exactly what she had expected.

"I knew it would be creepy, but not this creepy. He had like creepy face paint on and he has a chainsaw and he chases you," said Pandolfo.

The doors to Spooktacular opened up at 6:00 on Friday night, and crowds filled the zoo to get their Halloween fix.

The event has 13 trick-or-treat stations, a hay ride, and even a haunted hall.

The zoo's director says there are even some surprises this year.

"These noises that you're hearing in the background normally are wolves howling. But tonight, we have chainsaws," said Delisle-Heath.

Although the chainsaws scared some of the people there.

One girl used it as a way to spook others.

"I like to scare my cousin," said Rena Folino.

Lisa Falange is no stranger to Spooktacular. She has been coming for the past four years with her kids.

"The kids like it. She gets candy, she gets to get a little scare. It's a good time," said Falange.

The event will be running until Sunday afternoon.
