It's been over a week since election day, and The Oneida County Board of Elections continues to count the last of the votes.
Democrat candidate, Robert Palmieri is claiming victory as the next Mayor of Utica.
He received the most votes in the November 8th general election.
Palmieri says the city of Utica has a tremendous amount of potential.
He says it is about bringing people together to work on different issues.
Overall, Palmieri says he's very optimistic about serving the people in the city.
"I think the lead is so large at this point, that it's pretty safe to say I will be the mayor elected later on this evening. It is a privilege and honor to serve the city and I want everyone in City Hall to take that philosophy," said Palmieri.
Democrat Comissioner, Carolann Cardone, says local elections with the mayor and other items on the ballot make for a longer year.
